In order to make real and permanent changes in your life, you have to understand where you are coming from and where you are going. Your perception of reality (the way you believe things to be or should be) has been a big part of the problem as to why you may be feeling unhappy or feeling a surge of negative emotions. The perception of reality that you have for your life has been heavily influenced by society, television, family, friends, race, religion, and social or economic status.
Your current life is based on particular beliefs and habits that have been inherited or learned. This, in turn, has created your happiness or unhappiness.
An individual's perception of reality does nothing more than give him or her a basis to make choices. These continued choices have built their habits which has created their reality. Obviously, the majority of these habits have not benefited us as a society towards achieving overall happiness. If it was so, then we would not see so much sadness, violence and hopelessness amongst our youth. If society was molded to create happiness, we would see less illness and disease, less drugs, wars, judgement, hate, overweight or obese individuals and other things that depress and suppress our society.
First, you must understand that for change to occur in society you first must begin with yourself by redefining your perception of reality. Then, you will begin to find your own happiness and peace within. Perception is not concrete; it has the ability to change if you allow it. You choose how to perceive things based on your influences and learned mental habits; therefore, in order to achieve happiness (attract more positive opportunities to grow and become a better person); it is important to perceive problems, situations and people in a different way. Your best course of action is to change your belief system because the current one is not working for yourself or our world.
In the next few chapters, you will begin to build a new foundation to change your perception towards happiness and positive energy, but it is not going to happen overnight. It will take time with situational application and mental awareness, so instead of instantly reacting to life through your old perception of reality, you can begin to apply your new perception of reality to grow as an individual and create happiness on a daily basis and in turn help the world be a better place.
